As woman drawn from Adam's side

by Daniel Morgan

As woman drawn from Adam's side,
So in this world, the two are one,
As He has said, "Must you abide,"
Asleep to sin, upon His Son.

But what He says to keep aloof,
We eagerly spread wide.
What's needed on the tops of roofs,
We stutter, shrink, and hide

Without a budding leaf to find,
Without rest and wearied yet
That the sun should burn the vine
'Till I am blistered with regret.
