Independent Once Again!
by Jeff Daiell
Based on Thomas Davis's song of Irish resistance, "A Nation Once Again."
With Texas fire strong in my blood
I read of our land's freemen,
Who at The Alamo bravely stood,
For all the world to see them.
And so I hope I yet might see
"Annexation" disdained,
And Texas, long a province, be
Independent once again!
Chorus:
Independent once again!
Independent once again!
And Texas, long a province, be
Independent once again!
And from that time, through foreign woe,
That hope, though far, has shone bright;
Nor could the Yankee starburst's glow
Outshine that bold Lone Star's light;
It seemed to watch above my head
Despite conquest's foul shame.
Its voice sang above all dread:
Independent once again!
Chorus:
Independent once again!
Independent once again!
And Texas, long a province, be
Independent once again!
It whisper'd, too, that Freedom's flame,
A cause both high and holy,
Would be profaned and brought to shame
Save by Independence only.
For Freedom comes with autonomy;
We must separation gain.
All Texans now must make our land
Independent once again!
Chorus:
Independent once again!
Independent once again!
And Texas, long a province, be
Independent once again!
